Sannyasi Renunciates aka Monks and Nuns what is Required ?
One thing to remember no matter what type of Religious Order one enters the vows are standard.
What are these Vows ?
1. Poverty
Doesn't mean one has to starve or give away everything as one is worthy of their hire. It Does mean that money is not ones personal possession and not the goal of ones life. Money is to be used wisely for the goal of furthering ones own journey and to be able to bring a way for others to come out of suffering as well. Ones mindset is on the goal of Realization, and not the next object to be collected.
2. Chastity
Celibacy is mandatory for Sanyasi Renunciates to be chaste in Action - Thought - and Intention. Chaste is also modesty.
3. Obediance
Obey is such a hard word for ego's to hear. But the path is not about getting a recomendation, or a suggestion. That is for seekers in the world. Sannyas is about Obediance as this is in place to wear away the egoic mind and all it's wayward wanderings. Obediance is not easy - it is entering into a fire storm and facing the burning head on. So what burns ? hahahahah
Ego flares up when being tested and it will want to either
- A. Fight back
- B. Run Away
Being a Sannyasi is about doing neither A nor B. For IF A or B are put into action then Gold is not found - but simply more fools gold is kept and ego remains on it's throne of me*ship.
To be a Sannyasi - is to DIE to the world. It's charms are no longer chased nor entertained. One Depends Fully on Gods Grace. There is no voice raised against what the universe brings - as it is a test a wearing away - an opportunity - for Surrender and to say most aptly *Not my will but thine be done oh Lord*. Now if people are looking to be served, rather than to serve then it is best not to take Sannyas. At every turn one will be continually challenged. If not by Guru then by the Universe directly. As Sannyas is entering into a binding ceremony to Fully step into the path of no return. So think hard and look within - as once Sannyas is taken one may try to run away but God will then have you firmly in a grip - and there is no where to run where God cannot find you, and the conscience will KNOW that there is no escaping this Vow.
People have some mistaken notion as to why Guru's are served by the Sadhakas. It isn't for the Guru's benefit - it is for the benefit of the Sadhaka to wear away the edges of egoic endeavor. For Gurus to give and allow this to take place is a Tapasya and an ongoing Austerity, when none need be done. As it is much easier for one, that has completed the journey to simply wander without care and without burden. Even Ramana stopped talking after a short time. As argument and seekers drama's do nothing to further them on the path. It takes Silent Surrender - to allow the mind to Still, as every word is a stirring up and fanning the flame of egoic desire.
There are two types of flames
- 1. egoic desire and run away mind
- 2. the flame of Surrender
The only flame that burns away the dross is that of Surrender and allowing the run away mind to be put to ashes.
Will end this with some quotes:He that has earned the grace of the Guru shall undoubtedly be saved and never forsaken, just as the prey that has fallen into the tiger's jaws will never be allowed to escape. (Sri Ramana Maharishi)
That which is born of flesh is flesh; and that which is born of Spirit is Spirit. (bible St John)
The wise man strives for his salvation, having renounced his desire for the enjoyment of external objects, and betakes himself to a true and great teacher and accepts his teaching with an unshakable soul. (VivekCudamani)
The great and peaceful ones live regenerating the world like the coming of spring, and after having themselves crossed the ocean of embodied existence, help those who try to do the same thing, without personal motives. (VivekCudamani)
In a labyrinth of words the mind is lost like a man in a thick forrest, therfore with great efforts must be learned the Truth about oneself from him who Knows the Truth. (VivekCudamani)
The first gate of Yoga is the control of speech, then non grasping, absence of expectation, absence of desire and uninterrupted devotion to the One (Reality). (VivekCudamani)
Through the Realization of the atman with Brahmanunderstanding is utterly lost and mental activity has vanished. I know neither this nor that, nor what this bliss is, its extent, nor it's limit. (VivekCudamani)
I bow before thee, O guru, who art good, great, free from attachment, the embodiment ofeternal, non-dual bliss:lord of the earth, the boundless reservoir of compassion.
Oh Guru, having in thy great compassion awakened me from the sound sleep (of ignorance), thou hast saved me, roaming about in the dream like forest of birth, old age, and death, created by maya, daily tormented by manifold afflictions , and terrified by the tiger of egoism.
Oh Guru, I bow down before thee who art Truth alone, who hast the spendour of wisdom and who shinest in the form of the Universe. (VivekCudamani)
